After a cancer diagnosis, suddenly everyone wants to talk about cancer.

She is a person who has cancer.

Cancer is not her entire identity.

9. Don't Forget Practical Support

Sometimes the best addition to a breast cancer care package can't be wrapped.

Offer to walk her dog, pick up groceries, drive her to an appointment, bring dinner, help with childcare, run an errand, or sit with her during treatment if visitors are permitted and she wants company.

Specific offers are often much easier to accept.

10. Keep Showing Up

The best breast cancer care package isn't necessarily the one with the most products.

It's the one accompanied by continued support.

People often rally around someone immediately after a cancer diagnosis. But treatment can continue for months, and recovery can extend well beyond the final infusion.

Check in again. Remember the next appointment. Send another funny text. Celebrate milestones if she wants to celebrate them.

And continue inviting her into normal life.

What Should You Avoid Putting in a Breast Cancer Care Package?

Be cautious with supplements, vitamins, herbal remedies, highly fragranced products, and anything claiming to prevent, cure, or treat cancer or chemotherapy side effects.

Breast cancer treatments vary significantly from patient to patient, and some supplements or products may not be appropriate alongside certain medications.

When you're unsure about a health-related product, encourage your loved one to check with her oncology team.

You can provide plenty of love and comfort without providing medical advice.
